Karina is a Mexican photographer based in Switzerland, her work is driven by the complicity and intimacy created with the subject during the photographic act.
Since 1998 she started her career in the field of reportage and documentary photography, observing the social reality made her evolve as a photographer, her constant search for narrating human and deep stories with a more personal and introspective approach led her to make use of portrait photography as a way of connection to better understand the human condition. Her long-term project entitled Agon, about women's boxing, won the Prix PhotoForum PasquArt in Switzerland and the photo essay, El Grito del Silencio, which portrays violence against women, was included in the official selection of PhotoEspaña. Karina studied at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía and the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City and at the Centro Fotográfico Manuel Alvárez Bravo in Oaxaca. She graduated in photojournalism from the Swiss School of Journalism MAZ in Switzerland. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, Spain and Switzerland, as well as in international photography and visual arts festivals. Currently Karina continues to work on both personal and commercial projects, her approach remains human, revealing the essence, emotion and personality of the subject portrayed, seeking a visual narrative that reflects the individuality of the person without focusing on physical appearance. |
